Skyborne on Zephras Isle in the WoW Forever beta

Skyborne First Look: Exploring Zephras Isle in WoW Forever Beta

World of Warcraft: Forever’s new Skyborne race is finally here. In this first-look beta session, I create Jason Skyborne, explore Zephras Isle, work through the opening quests, test the early druid experience, and discover just how dangerous the island’s shortcuts can be.

This is an in-game look at the new race and its starting experience, with plenty of exploration, questing, gathering, and unscripted moments from the opening journey.

First Look at the Skyborne

The Skyborne immediately stand out as one of WoW Forever’s most distinctive additions. Their skybound home, elemental themes, new character models, and faction-aligned traditions give the opening experience a different identity from the familiar Alliance and Horde starting zones.

For this run I created Jason Skyborne and followed the druid path. The early quests introduce the race, the local factions, and the movement and exploration tools that make Zephras Isle feel different from a traditional starting zone.

Exploring Zephras Isle

Zephras Isle introduces the Skyborne through Thendal Grove, a new starting area filled with suspended structures, waterfalls, high-island paths, and a story built around the instability of the region and the disappearance of its elemental allies.

The opening quests introduce the Windshapers, the High Order, Windstones, gathering objectives, and the first major landmarks across the island. Even the simplest quests encourage you to wander away from the direct route and see what is beyond the next ridge.

Early Quests, Abilities, and Professions

The opening chain covers the Skyborne’s first combat encounters, Windstone gathering, elemental convergence, Sky Sight, and the movement ability that lets the character walk on air and glide through the starting zone.

There is a lot of classic-style questing here, but the new setting gives those familiar systems a completely different feel. The gathering quests become opportunities to explore cliffs, paths, waterfalls, and hidden corners of the island.

The Waterfall Shortcut

The best accidental moment of the run came when I followed the gathering quest toward a waterfall and decided to test the Skyborne movement ability. The shortcut worked just well enough to get me over the edge—and just badly enough to nearly kill me when I landed below.

That kind of unscripted exploration is exactly what makes this first look exciting. Zephras Isle encourages you to test the new race’s tools, but it is also happy to punish you for experimenting.
