World of Warcraft: Forever introduces Skyborne as a new playable people with a choice of faction, a new island origin, and a class lineup that changes depending on where you stand. This guide brings together the announced details, public panel coverage, and the practical questions players are already asking. Where Blizzard has not published final numbers, the wording below keeps that uncertainty visible.

Skyborne at a glance
- Starting zone: Zephras Isle, a level 1–12 introduction built around the Skyborne origin.
- Faction: choose Alliance or Horde during character creation.
- Alliance classes: Mage, Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid.
- Horde classes: Shaman, Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid.
- Character direction: an air-focused culture with distinct faction traditions, customization, and a new starting story.
What are the Skyborne?
Skyborne are the first newly announced playable race in Forever’s expanded roster. Their identity is tied to height, wind, and the floating-island culture of Zephras Isle. The faction choice is part of the fantasy: Alliance Skyborne are presented as the group that follows an arcane tradition, while Horde Skyborne lean into elemental practices. Both sides share the core physical identity and the same four common classes.
The race should be treated as a complete character choice rather than a cosmetic variant. Your decision affects the opening story, faction hub, exclusive fifth class, and the abilities that Blizzard ultimately assigns to the race.
Skyborne class options
Alliance Skyborne
Alliance characters can choose Mage, Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, or Druid. Mage is the faction-specific option and fits the announced arcane side of Skyborne history.
Horde Skyborne
Horde characters can choose Shaman, Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, or Druid. Shaman is the faction-specific option and connects the Horde origin to elemental power and totems.
Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid are shared options. The full class guide is available on our WoW Forever Classes page, while the race and class hub compares every announced combination.
Announced Skyborne racials
Public coverage of the preview has identified four racial effects. These should be read as announced or publicly shown concepts until Blizzard publishes final beta tooltips.
- Walk on Air: glide downward for roughly 10 seconds, giving Skyborne a controlled way to cross gaps and descend from high terrain.
- Wind Blessed: a small haste bonus, publicly described as 1%.
- Elemental Insight: a bonus to elemental damage, publicly described as 5%.
- Faction racial: Alliance Skyborne have been shown with Read Ley Line, described as restoring health and mana to full. Horde Skyborne have been shown with Skysight, described as a 10% run-speed elemental blessing.
Numbers, cooldowns, restrictions, and interactions can change during testing. Use these effects as a planning baseline, not as a promise of final balance.
Customization and model options
Preview footage shows more variety than a single blue-skinned template. Skyborne customization includes multiple hairstyles and hair colors, a range of skin tones, and eye colors including yellow, purple, and icy blue. The model presentation also includes an HD/SD toggle, allowing players to choose the higher-detail appearance or the lighter version when performance matters.
Blizzard has not finished documenting every slider, face option, body preset, or armor interaction. Expect the character creator to grow as beta testing continues.

Zephras Isle: the level 1–12 start
Every Skyborne begins on Zephras Isle. The zone is designed to teach the race’s movement, culture, and faction choice before sending characters into the wider world. The opening journey is expected to carry players through the first twelve levels, introduce the air-spirit and elemental themes, and establish why Skyborne communities are splitting between Alliance and Horde traditions.
For a practical route, pair this page with our Starting as Skyborne guide. That guide will track the early quests, starter rewards, and the best point to leave the island once the live details are available.
Access, editions, and the racial mount
Skyborne access is connected to the Forever release and its upgrade or pack structure. Check Blizzard’s current edition page before purchasing because availability, timing, and included bonuses can change between announcement, beta, and launch. A Skyborne-specific racial mount has been shown or discussed in preview coverage, but the final name, appearance, and unlock requirements have not been published in a complete official reference.
How to buy Skyborne and what is behind the paywall
World of Warcraft: Forever itself is included with an active World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time. The Skyborne race and the Zephras Isle starting experience are the separately gated parts. Blizzard’s current upgrade page says the minimum edition that unlocks both is the Skyborne Heroic Pack.

- Skyborne Heroic Pack: unlocks the Skyborne race and Zephras Isle starting experience, Early Name Reservation, the Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount, Shen’dorei Skyseer’s Garb, Veteran Adventurer’s Rucksack, Shen’dorei Windwell toy, modern WoW housing decor, and one Invite-A-Friend launch code.
- Skyborne Epic Pack: includes everything in Heroic, plus beta access beginning September 17, 2026, 30 days of game time added November 4, additional cosmetics, tabards, pets, and two additional launch codes.
- Warcraft Forever Collection: includes everything in Epic, plus Warcraft III: Reforged, the Forsaken Kingdom campaign, and additional housing decor. It is a limited-time bundle.
Blizzard’s public announcement lists the Heroic Pack as the race unlock tier; current reporting places it at $29.99 USD, while the Epic Pack is listed at $59.99 USD and the Collection at $79.99 USD. Regional pricing, taxes, currency conversion, and future shop changes can differ, so confirm the final price in the Battle.net Shop before checkout.
Beta access is not included with the Heroic Pack. It begins with the Epic Pack or Warcraft Forever Collection. Early Name Reservation is included with any upgrade purchase and is scheduled for October 27–November 3, 2026. The base game still requires a subscription or game time outside any included 30-day period.

What is still unknown?
- Final racial tooltip text, cooldowns, and balance values.
- The complete Skyborne customization catalogue and armor-proportion details.
- The final racial mount name and collection requirements.
- Whether class access changes during beta or after launch.
- The exact quest sequence and rewards on Zephras Isle.
We will update this guide as Blizzard releases patch notes, beta documentation, or a complete character-creation preview.
Skyborne FAQ
Can Skyborne join either faction?
Yes. The announced design lets you choose Alliance or Horde at character creation.
Can a Skyborne be a Mage or Shaman?
Yes, but the class depends on faction: Mage is the Alliance-exclusive option and Shaman is the Horde-exclusive option.
Are Skyborne racials final?
No. The abilities and numbers above reflect announced or publicly shown information and should be rechecked against the latest beta tooltips.
What is the best Skyborne class?
Choose based on role first. Mage and Shaman express the two faction stories, while Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid are shared choices that let you prioritize melee, ranged, stealth, or flexible utility.
Sources and update policy
Primary context comes from Blizzard’s What’s Next panel recap and Deep Dive panel recap. We also compared the public class, racial, and customization summary at Mobalytics’ WoW Forever Skyborne guide. Public preview details are labeled here so the page can be corrected quickly when official beta documentation supersedes them.
