City of Dalaran

City of Dalaran turns a familiar mage capital into one of the new dungeons announced for World of Warcraft: Forever. Blizzard’s presentation set the adventure in the Alterac Mountains, where the magical barrier that concealed the rebuilt city appears to have fallen. Inside, the Kirin Tor’s magic is misbehaving, arcane constructs are out of control, and demonic energy is present. The panel also stressed that the place is a city to explore, not simply a corridor of boss rooms.

  • Group size, boss roster, exact access route, encounter mechanics, difficulty options, and loot: not officially detailed yet

A rebuilt city behind a failed barrier

Dalaran is the Kirin Tor’s magical city in the Alterac Mountains. The BlizzCon account explains that, after the events of Warcraft III, the mages raised a barrier to conceal their restoration of the city. In the Forever presentation, that barrier seems to be gone. The result is a story setup in which players can enter a version of Dalaran that has been restored but is not fully under control.

The central problem is magical disorder. Lead software engineer Nora Mills described enchantments backfiring, arcane constructs going haywire, and demonic energy running through the city. She added that there are cats everywhere, which she presented as normal for Dalaran. These details establish the atmosphere and the kinds of trouble the city is facing, but they do not identify any individual enemy, quest giver, boss, or encounter sequence.

Blizzard’s official What’s Next panel recap calls Dalaran chaotic and links it with strange magical trouble. It also describes the new instance list as a way to explore long-discussed places in the original world. The panel added that the city has more to see beyond the playable dungeon route, but no district map or exploration checklist has been published.

Reported levels and how players get inside

The level estimate is still a presentation note, not a final requirement. Output Lag’s account of Mills’ wording puts it “around levels 28, 30.” Another contemporaneous panel recap reports a 28–33 target, while Blizzard’s written recap does not give a numerical range. Until an in-game level requirement or updated official guide appears, the safe description is an upper-twenties dungeon whose exact bracket may change.

The team also suggested that a group of adventurers openly helping the Kirin Tor would not be an easy fit, and that players would find a roundabout way into the city. This confirms an indirect entry concept, not the actual quest chain or faction rules. Blizzard has not named the route, required quest, key, attunement, party size, or whether access differs between factions.

Encounters, rewards, and open questions

No boss names, boss count, fight mechanics, trash abilities, healing checks, or tank assignments have been released. The report mentions possible magical artifacts for players who help, but frames them as a possibility; there are no confirmed item names, statistics, set pieces, or loot tables. Do not use a guide for a later Dalaran zone or another version of the game as evidence for this Forever instance.

Important details remain open: which areas of the city are playable, how players enter, what the demonic energy is connected to, which constructs or other foes appear, and how the story concludes. Difficulty modes and group size are also unknown. Beta footage or a later dungeon journal may answer some of these questions, but any testing-based guide should state the build and date because the design can change.

Availability and preparation

City of Dalaran is one of Blizzard’s nine announced new dungeons, but the panel recap gives no separate unlock date for it. The broader launch is scheduled for November 4, 2026, with beta beginning September 17; those milestones do not establish which beta build includes Dalaran or its exact availability at launch. Follow the WoW Forever roadmap and beta access guide for general timing updates.

For now, players can prepare by choosing a role and learning their class’s core abilities, without assuming a particular group composition or counter-strategy. When Blizzard confirms the entrance, encounters, and rewards, we can add a proper route and boss-by-boss walkthrough.
