WoW Forever Legacy System Guide: Challenges, Perks & Rewards

Last checked: October 5, 2026. The Legacy System is WoW Forever’s account-wide progression layer for players who want their time spent exploring, leveling, learning professions, and playing other content to add up across a roster. It is designed as horizontal progression: challenges unlock perks and rewards without replacing the character’s ordinary levels, gear, or class talents.

This guide separates Blizzard-confirmed rules from details that should still be checked in the live beta. For the complete overview, see the WoW Forever Systems Hub; pair this page with the Talents guide when planning character power.

What the Legacy System is for

Blizzard describes Legacy as an account-wide system that encourages players to revisit the level 1–60 journey and try different classes or tradeskills. Alts are encouraged, but they are not mandatory: Blizzard says character advantages can be unlocked on a single character. The system has three parts—Legacy Challenges, Legacy Perks, and Legacy Rewards—so it is useful to think of it as a cycle: complete activities, earn progress, choose a perk, and work toward a reward.

Legacy Points are shared across eligible characters on the Battle.net account. At launch, Blizzard says each character can spend up to 16 points across three Legacy trees. The point pool is shared, but choices are made independently by character, letting a main and an alt follow different routes. This is separate from ordinary class talent points and should not be read as a level-16 unlock.

Legacy Challenges: how progress is earned

The challenge interface shown by Blizzard groups goals around classes, tradeskills, player-versus-player, adventure, dungeons, and raids. Examples include reaching milestones on a class or profession. That structure rewards breadth, but the official article makes clear that players can benefit without leveling every class. Check the current in-game Legacy panel for each challenge’s requirement, point award, and status; those exact values can change during beta.

Legacy Perks and point choices

Perks are the system’s character advantages. Blizzard’s launch announcement describes a maximum of 16 points spent per character across three trees. A shared account pool makes the choice consequential: if one character spends points, that can affect what another character can choose. The official overview names broad categories and examples, but it does not replace the current in-game panel for exact costs, prerequisite paths, or rank scaling. Treat screenshots and early-build values as dated evidence rather than a permanent build recommendation.

When comparing perks, ask what problem you want to solve: a smoother profession journey, more convenience while exploring, or support for a particular activity. Avoid assuming every perk is equally useful to every class. Revisit the class guides and the professions hub after checking what the current beta actually offers.

Legacy Rewards and account boundaries

Rewards are the collection side of Legacy. Blizzard has highlighted cosmetics such as a Legacy-exclusive Spectral Bear Cub, while broader reward availability and unlock routes should be confirmed in the official panel and live interface. Legacy progression is account-wide, but ruleset boundaries matter: Blizzard says Hardcore Legacy challenges completed in non-Hardcore rulesets will not count for Hardcore. Read the Hardcore guide before assuming progress transfers in both directions.

Practical checklist for beta players

  • Open the Legacy panel and note your current points, available challenges, and the character’s available perk choices.
  • Read the cost and prerequisites in-game before spending shared points.
  • Choose whether you are optimizing one character or building a roster; both approaches can contribute.
  • Record the build date when comparing a screenshot or community report with what you see.
  • Keep Legacy perks distinct from the class talent trees explained in our talent system guide.

Confirmed facts and open questions

Confirmed by Blizzard: Legacy is account-wide horizontal progression with Challenges, Perks, and Rewards; alts are optional; each character can spend up to 16 points across three trees at launch; and Hardcore challenge progress has separate rules. Check in the live build: challenge values, exact perk effects and costs, reward requirements, and any changes made during testing.
