Priests channel Holy and Shadow magic to heal allies, protect a group, or damage enemies. They are the cloth-wearing class most associated with healing, but the Shadow tree also supports a dedicated damage style for players who want to fight with offensive spells.

How the Priest plays
The familiar talent trees are Discipline, Holy, and Shadow. Holy specializes in direct healing and recovery; Discipline emphasizes prevention, shields, and support; Shadow turns the Priest’s magic toward damage and pressure. Priests use Mana for their spells, so choosing efficient heals and finding time to recover are important, especially during long dungeons or while leveling.
Priests bring several tools that help a group beyond restoring health, including protective magic, buffs, and ways to dispel harmful effects. Their toolkit makes it possible to react to sudden damage or prepare an ally before a dangerous attack. They wear cloth and are not tanks, so positioning and awareness matter when an enemy reaches the back line. Solo players can use Shadow spells and protective abilities to manage enemies, but a Priest still benefits from careful pulls and keeping Mana available.
Priests in groups and PvP
In dungeons and raids, Holy and Discipline Priests heal through different combinations of recovery and prevention. Shadow Priests contribute ranged damage and useful support. Coordinate Mana breaks with the group and choose a healing approach that suits the encounter. In PvP, shields, healing, dispels, and Shadow pressure can shape a fight, but a Priest is vulnerable when caught without teammates or defensive resources.
Priest in WoW Forever
Blizzard confirmed Gnome Priest as a new race-and-class combination. Its Forever talent announcement also names Divine Spirit among the important class buffs moving from a talent into the baseline kit. The Deep Dive describes the new 16-point talent milestone alongside the familiar 11, 21, and 31-point milestones, but it does not publish the complete final Priest trees or spell values. Treat established tree themes as a guide to class identity, and verify current abilities and talent effects in the beta client.

September 24, 2026 beta update
Renew can now critically heal, and Power Word: Shield can replace an existing shield when the target does not have Weakened Soul. Blizzard also lists racial Priest updates: Gnome Contingency Plan can crit; Night Elf Starshards gains spell pushback resistance from Twilight Focus; and Undead Dark Sacrifice no longer breaks damage-breakable crowd control, with its Mana return clarified to scale with Spirit. Confounding Flash also gains a cast visual. Check the current beta build for exact behavior.

Cooldown manager beta test
Priest is one of five supported classes for the new cooldown manager, which is off by default and can be enabled under Options > Gameplay Enhancement. Spell-rank support is not available yet. Blizzard’s current known-issues list also notes that the manager tracks every Priest spell by default, so treat its display as a testing feature rather than a reliable final configuration.
