Rogues excel at choosing the terms of a fight. Stealth lets them approach or bypass enemies, while Energy, combo points, weapon attacks, and poisons give them a fast, precise melee damage style built around timing and control.

How the Rogue plays
The three familiar talent trees are Assassination, Combat, and Subtlety. Assassination develops poison and finishing-move themes, Combat supports direct weapon fighting, and Subtlety leans into stealth and control. Rogues wear leather and serve as damage dealers rather than tanks or healers. Their resource loop rewards building combo points with attacks and spending them on finishing moves, while Energy returns over time.
Stealth can make questing more flexible: a Rogue can choose a target, use control to separate enemies, or slip past a patrol. Poisons add preparation and specialization to weapons, and tools such as Pick Lock help open certain containers and doors. Rogues are durable enough to handle some mistakes, but leather armor and limited recovery make being surrounded dangerous. Use control and positioning before a pull becomes a scramble.
Rogues in groups and PvP
In dungeons and raids, Rogues provide melee damage, interrupts, crowd control, and poison effects. Abilities such as Sap are useful only when the group plans around them; coordinate before using control that affects a pull. In PvP, stealth, stuns, slows, and burst windows let Rogues dictate when to engage, but a failed opener or poor target choice can leave them exposed. Good timing and awareness matter as much as the build.
Rogue in WoW Forever
Blizzard has not published a full Rogue-specific talent or ability breakdown in the Forever Deep Dive. The announced direction keeps recognizable class identities while revising talent trees, with one-point milestones at 11, 16, 21, and 31 points spent in a tree. A confirmed stat update combines melee, ranged, and spell hit chance. Blizzard specifically says this lets Rogues benefit when improving the reliability of tools such as Poisons. Check the beta client for current poison rules, talent effects, and tuning before following a build.
Rogue is one of the classes available to both Alliance- and Horde-aligned Skyborne. See the Skyborne guide and race and class compatibility guide for options.

September 24, 2026 beta update
Blizzard fixed a PvP flagging issue: using Sap on a PvP-flagged target now correctly flags the Rogue as well. This is a beta behavior update; check the current build for any later changes.
