WoW Forever New Player Guide: Start Your Azeroth Journey

Starting World of Warcraft: Forever for the first time? This guide covers the decisions and habits that make your first hours easier: choosing a character, learning your class, questing efficiently, using trainers and professions, traveling safely, and finding a group when you want one.

Updated October 4, 2026. Forever returns players to a reimagined original Azeroth and builds toward a level 1–60 journey. At the time of this update, the beta has opened play up to level 30; beta details can change, so use the live client and Blizzard’s current development notes for what is available now.

1. Choose a character you want to spend time with

Your race shapes your identity and starting experience; your class determines your abilities and role options. Pick the style that sounds enjoyable before worrying about a theoretical “best” choice. If you are deciding between characters, browse the race guides and class guides. The new Skyborne have a dedicated beginning on Zephras Isle and a faction choice; see the Skyborne guide for its specifics.

Think about how you like to play: close-range combat, ranged attacks, spells, pets, support, or a mix. Early levels are a low-pressure chance to learn the basic resource and ability loop. Try new abilities against manageable enemies, read the tooltip, and visit your class trainer when the game indicates new spells are available.

2. Learn the quest loop

Accept nearby quests, read the objective, and use the map and quest tracker to locate the next area. Several quests may send you to the same camp, so collecting a few before traveling saves time. Return to the quest giver when objectives are complete and watch for follow-up quests; some local stories continue in stages.

  • Keep your active objectives readable; abandon a quest only if you understand how to pick it up again.
  • Use enemy level and difficulty as a guide. If a target is far above you or a quest becomes difficult, choose easier nearby content and return later.
  • Check vendors and repair gear in settlements. Clear low-value items when bags fill, but do not sell a quest item or useful equipment without checking what it is.
  • Ask a nearby player or group if an objective is confusing. Coordinating quest stages makes cooperative play smoother.

For zone-by-zone context, start with the WoW Forever zones hub. Its pages introduce the announced stories of Mount Hyjal, the Riverglades, and Shen’dralas. Check the client before assuming a future region is open or that an older route matches the current beta.

3. Visit trainers and explore professions at your pace

Class trainers teach abilities as you progress, while professions let you gather materials or make useful items. You do not need to master every system in your first session. Pick one or two professions that fit your character, learn where to train, and use the professions hub for Forever-specific changes as they are confirmed. If your bags fill with gathered materials, consider a bank or a vendor rather than carrying everything indefinitely.

4. Travel with a plan, but leave room to explore

Long journeys are part of the world. Ask a guard for directions in a city, learn flight paths when you find them, and note the nearest inn or safe hub. Before heading into a distant area, repair equipment and bring any class resources or food you may need. If you are unsure which zone fits your level, use the leveling guide as a flexible framework rather than a mandatory sequence.

5. Group up and learn together

Groups make elite quests and dungeons more approachable. Before starting, agree on the goal, pace, and whether everyone is on the same quest step. If you are new to a role, say so; a party can explain pulls, positioning, and when to use class abilities. Read the dungeon preparation guide before your first instance. You can also browse PvP when you are ready for battleground play.

6. Treat beta details as provisional

The beta is a test environment. Quest text, spawns, tuning, and access can change. Blizzard’s October 1 notes, for example, document fixes and quest adjustments in existing areas. When a guide and your game disagree, trust the current client for immediate directions and check official notes for recent changes. Our evidence policy explains how Azeroth Plus labels confirmed information and editorial guidance.

Your next steps

  1. Choose a race and class using the race hub and class hub.
  2. Follow your starting quests and learn your class basics.
  3. Use the zone directory and leveling guide when you are ready to travel.
  4. Return to the guides hub for launch preparation, dungeons, raids, and addon help.

There is no need to optimize every decision before you begin. Learn the world one quest hub at a time, explore with friends when you can, and adjust your route as you discover what you enjoy.
